The Convergence Award for Extraordinary Leadership in Bridge-Building recognizes individuals who embody the imperative to bring people together and demonstrate exceptional bridge-building leadership across divides to solve problems for the good of America. The annual Convergence Award for Extraordinary Leadership in Bridge-Building is the highest recognition from Convergence.

Recipients

June 2021: Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY)

For demonstrated leadership as Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Working Group, commitment to legislative collaboration, and publicly expressed support for working together across differences for the good of constituents and the country. As co-chair of the Bipartisan Working Group, Rep. Barr was an integral part of a bipartisan letter to House leadership asking for consideration of proposals to address the nation’s infrastructure needs. In the aftermath of events on Jan 6, Rep. Barr was instrumental in rallying together members of the BPWG to hold constructive bipartisanship dialogue and set goals needed for the country to heal. 

November 2020: Congressman Derek Kilmer (D-WA)

For his bridge-building efforts across party lines within Congress and for his tremendous work demonstrated as chair of the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress (SCMC) as well the Bipartisan Working Group (BPWG). As Chair of the SCMC, Rep. Kilmer oversaw the publication of a ground-breaking report listing over 90 recommendations to help Congress better serve the American people, a pathway for Congress to model the effective leadership that Americans crave.
