Explore Tips for Productive Conversations from an Expert Mediator

With as much division and polarization as there is in society today, it is imperative that we are intentional about engaging different viewpoints to solve challenging issues. This is the only way that we will hold our families, community, and country together. It’s easy to forget that we share values with most people with whom we disagree and that there are benefits to fostering relationships despite our differences. This is why we prepared these tips from Mariah Levison, seasoned consensus builder and Convergence leader.

Take the Convergence Compass Online Learning Program

Convergence Compass is a one-of-a-kind online learning program that helps participants understand what drives division and teaches them evidence-based strategies for effective dialogue, and collaborative problem-solving even on the toughest issues. The curriculum is designed by Convergence in partnership with Constructive Dialogue Institute and UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center. The program will be available as a standalone offering and as a cohort with instructor-led sessions in between courses to practice and apply skills.

This work was made possible through the support of the New Pluralists Collaborative, a sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.

Study the Collaborative Problem-Solving Guide

Collaborative problem-solving is a method that brings people together across ideological, political, and identity divides to build trusting relationships, identify breakthrough solutions, and form unlikely alliances for constructive change on seemingly intractable issues. It involves pooling together diverse perspectives, skills, and resources to generate higher-ground solutions that are wiser and more durable than those that could be achieved by working alone. This is a short how-to to introduce you to how you can facilitate it.
