Caryn Hederman is a Senior Fellow of Convergence Center for Policy Resolution with deep expertise in regulatory frameworks, consensus‑driven policymaking, and evidence‑based health and wellbeing innovation. Caryn is an attorney and health care consultant who is nationally recognized as a leader at the intersection of law, science, and public policy. She has built a distinguished career spanning government, law, academia, and advisory leadership, shaping national dialogue on healthcare delivery, social factors of health, and emerging technologies that advance human wellbeing while protecting American freedoms.
As an independent consultant to Convergence, Caryn leads complex, dialogue‑to‑action initiatives and designs and facilitates bipartisan, cross‑sector collaborations that bring together policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and industry leaders to identify shared goals and advance pragmatic policy solutions. Her convening leadership includes major national efforts such as Convergence Collaborative on Social Factors of Health, Reimagining Care for Older Adults, Future of Health, Long‑Term Care Financing Collaborative, and the Health Reform Roundtable. Prior to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, she managed a national conservative think tank’s state‑based health insurance reform initiative focused on expanding access to coverage for individuals and small businesses.
In Fall 2025, Caryn co‑led two initiatives to implement member recommendations from the Convergence Collaborative on Social Factors of Health: Unlocking Social Factors of Health: Data Sharing, Evaluation, and Innovation, convening senior state officials and experts from six states, and a series of stakeholder learning sessions examining the roles of community hubs and faith‑mission service organizations.
Across these initiatives, Caryn is widely recognized for her ability to bridge ideological and professional divides, translate complex research into policy‑relevant insight, and catalyze sustained collaboration. Recommendations generated from her work continue to inform thought leaders and members of Congress in shaping health and social policy.
Previously, Caryn practiced litigation and policy at a leading Washington, D.C.–based law and lobbying firm, advising health care providers, insurers, and advanced technology companies on regulatory, congressional, and strategic matters. Earlier in her career, she worked in science and technology transfer at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Caryn serves on nonprofit and startup boards and is President of the U.S. Friends of World Maritime University. She holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, a B.A. from Smith College, and is licensed to practice law in Ohio.
